Sweet Peace-Sweet Success

Longmont:

Teaching Peace, a local non-profit and parent of the notable Longmont Community Justice Partnership (LCJP), is celebrating the phenomenal success of its first major fundraiser, Sweet Peace, held Nov 3 at The Great Frame Up. Nearly 300 guests enjoyed delectable desserts, wine, entertainment and the fabulous silent auction to benefit Teaching Peace programs. Guests learned more about Teaching Peace's 13 years of successful service to Longmont and the St. Vrain Valley School District. The money raised will go toward continuing restorative justice services and increasing our bilingual Spanish services.

We extend our most sincere thanks to: The Honorable Judge Tom Reed, Mayor Julia Pirnack, Police Chief Mike Butler, GRIP Specialist Pattie Moreno and St. Vrain Valley School Dist. Superintendent Randy Zila for their participation as Celebrity Judges in the dessert Tasting Contest. And to our Professional Judges, Chef Tim Stewart from That Chef Catering, Chef Elena Clement and Chef Elise Wiggins from Johnson and Wales Culinary Institute we extend a huge thanks as well.

And special gratitude for our esteemed sponsors: The Great Frame Up (for their beautiful and elegant space), That Chef, Tim Stewart, St. Vrain Valley School Dist., Whole Foods, Celestial Seasonings and Ziggi's Coffee.

Let us not forget all the volunteers who designed websites, hosted with aplomb, spoke from the heart, provided floral arrangements, auction coordination, video expertise, inspiring music and just plain magic: Dan Orner, Walt Davis, Dan Benavidez, Dan Ditslear, David Bonnett, David Title, Leah D'Abate, Michael Herrick Ed Rhine, and Robin Ericson. Thank you to our musicians, Dexter Payne, Bret Isom, Christian Glover, Sam Vittoria, Longmont Children's Choir under the direction of Jackie Laughlin.

And to the rest of the community who played major roles in keeping our programs moving forward - especially for the kids, parents and community members who will be future participants in the Longmont Community Justice Partnership. Here's to sweet success!

Teaching Peace uses restorative justice to address crime and conflict in Longmont and the St Vrain Valley School District. Restorative justice is a movement that has been exhibiting a high degree of success worldwide. With this program and others under development, Teaching Peace foresees a future where the cycles of violence and crime have been broken and people live, work and play in communities that are civil and safe.
